The “suite” room
Our final boat trip in Norway is from Svolvaer to Tromsø. Our departure is 10:10 pm and we are back on the Havila line. Havila is the newer of the two Norwegian ferry lines, the boat we are on is the MS Havila Capella. It looks like a newer ship; the differences shock our senses starting with great customer service at check in. The agent informed us that our booking is for a small inside room with bunk beds. When you book the port-to-port voyages, you do not have any options on rooms, hence the odd rooms we have had on the last three legs. The agent offers us an upgrade to a suite, king size bed, robe and slippers, no need to check out until our departure at 2:00 pm the next day.
We are tired and have been wet and cold for 4 days, Frank and I look at each other and in a nano second both say yes together!! What is NOK 2,000 in the grand scheme anyways ($206).
As nice as the room is the best part is the extra large window. The view is really nice and it has stopped raining. The route to Tromsø follows an inside passage, at times we are so close to land that we can see the details of the small settlements and individual farms. Even after 20 days in Norway we are still in awe of the beauty of this country, we stay up until 2:00 am watching the fjord go by.

The next day we have a late start, the room includes coffee and a electric tea pot, this is a first on these voyages, there is also complementary coffee on several decks, what a change. Janet’s plan was to start the day in the very nice workout rooms, but they are jammed with people. It appears this ship also has a much younger crowd. On our last voyage we felt like the youngest passengers. Janet opts for walk/run around the upper deck; it is warm and beautiful. 2:00 pm comes quickly and we go to the outside deck to watch the boat docking.
This was a nice voyage, was it worth the price? We have one more boat trip, from Stockholm to Helsinki, we will withhold our thoughts on this means of transport until the end. For now, bon voyage Norway boat travel.
